WHY UPSKILL?

In building and construction, retention is shaped by the day-to-day experience of work on site.

That experience is heavily influenced by frontline leadership.

Most businesses already invest in technical capability. What is often missing is support for supervisors and site leaders to lead people well under pressure.

When that gap remains, common issues show up:

  • unclear communication
  • poor follow-through
  • reactive leadership
  • conflict that lingers or escalates
  • overfunctioning and burnout
  • inconsistent standards across the team

This program helps close that gap.

“What I’ve learned is that retention is not HR its how people experience my leadership. Every person is human before they are useful and when we forget that, things spiral.”

 — Harry, Site Supervisor
Tasbuilt

What the program covers

The program develops leadership from the inside out — beginning with how leaders manage themselves under pressure, then how they communicate with others, and finally how they shape the culture around them.

1. Leading Self

Building steadiness, self-awareness and confidence under pressure.

Participants learn to recognise their own pressure patterns, manage time and energy more effectively, use authority well, and lead with greater clarity rather than reactivity.

Includes:

  • DiSC Leadership Style
  • iEQ9 Enneagram Report + Debrief

2. Leading Others

Improving communication, delegation, feedback and difficult conversations.

Participants build practical skills for communicating clearly, addressing issues earlier, delegating with confidence, and adapting their leadership style to the person and situation in front of them.

3. Leading Culture

Creating better standards, stronger accountability and healthier team rhythms.

Participants learn how to set expectations, strengthen follow-through, run better meetings, build trust, and create practical rhythms that support productivity, accountability and team culture.

What the program covers

Over four full-day workshops, participants will build both the outer game of leadership and the inner game required to use those skills well when pressure rises.

This includes:

  • communication and clear expectations
  • accountability and follow-through
  • emotional awareness and non-reactivity under pressure
  • conflict repair and difficult conversations
  • delegation and effective use of authority
  • motivation, engagement, and team alignment
  • healthier team rhythms, stronger meetings, and better handoffs
  • building capability in others rather than relying on heroics

Optional add-on

Better Conversations Every Day
an optional peer-support lab designed to help participants embed the learning into everyday workflow and build a stronger peer coaching culture across the organisation.

This 8-hour add-on supports shared language, earlier repair, better psychosocial safety, and ongoing practical accountability after the workshops end.

“I have far better communication with both my current direct reports… feel more confident they understand what I want from them, and in turn they can ask me things without feeling I don’t understand them."

Matt, Supervisor
